Alternative reality SF fantasy suicide bomber novel The suicide bombers are religious fanatics, and one of these fanatics is none other than Ibrahim's own brother, Adolf North. Motivated by religious fanaticism, the terrorists believe that a campaign of suicide bombing is what is needed to awaken to consciousness the unknown messiah, the one whose identity is not known by anyone, not even by himself. The mission of the suicide bombers, then, is to wake the sleepwalking messiah to self-consciousness: that is to say, to find and wake the dreamer. As the war on terror gathers pace, Ibrahim struggles to resist being forced into becoming the leader of a terrorist group which has armed itself with stolen nuclear weapons. The action is harsh and at times ultraviolent, featuring, amongst other things, a sadistic killing and brutal torture. This novel takes on the age of terror and the excesses of the war. In this context, Ibrahim's problems include the delinquencies of his godson, to whom he has what are, in effect, a father's responsibilities, and the even greater problem of the wheel which seems to have awakened to life inside his belly. Ibrahim is not entirely certain what the wheel signifies, but his horrified suspicion is that he is one of the paranormally enabled who are capable of glorsting: that is, who are capable of causing themselves to spontaneously explode. That he is, like it or not, a human suicide bomber. Potentially, at least. If you find yourself too squeamish to face the challenges of this tale, then better go find yourself some other planet to live on, because the world of this alternative reality novel is, in many ways, the very one that we inhabit. |
